New Twilight Princess on the Way? (Update: YES!...sorta...) | 23 Mar 09 |
23:22:49 by SpexfoxViews: 526 | Comments: 12
Well it's confirmed in a way guys! Though it wasn't a new Zelda for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo HAS announced a new Zelda game for the Nintendo DS! Here's the trailer with thanks to Joystiq.com for the embeddable video! [cutoff] Original Post:Details are very...VERY scant right now. This is only a rumor, but it's been reported that a new Zelda game may well be on the way. With GDC just around the corner, Zelda news being minimal for a while now, and Nintendo's need to regain a grip on the core gaming community, I wouldn't be very surprised to find this is true. Of course, there's not much to confirm this right now so we'll have to wait and see for a while...

Unscheduled Downtime | 15 Mar 09 |
16:54:16 by SpexfoxViews: 344 | Comments: 1
You may have noticed a bit of downtime on Zelda Coalition shortly ago. The problem has now been fixed (obviously since you're reading this). The problem stemmed from Core Networks (which is the server provider for our host RandomSonicNet.org). Below is Core Networks' statement: 15 Mar 2009
A DDoS occurred which caused some added latency and packet loss between 1:59 and 2:05pm EDT, until it was able to be successfully mitigated upstream. So there you go. Everything is up and running now with no damage to us or our host save a little downtime. You can now continue posting. Update: Core Networks made a slightly more detailed post shortly ago.[cutoff] It reads: This beautiful spring Sunday was rather abruptly interrupted by a *massive* DDoS attack which not only knocked out our routers, but also caused our upstreams to experience problems accessing their edge routers to be able to diagnose and block the inbound attack.
Everything seems to be back to normal now, but we're keeping a close eye on traffic. Our apologies for the outage, unfortunately the ability to mitigate this attack was beyond our control.

Site Layout Update | 10 Mar 09 |
Greetings, fellow ZC-goers. I recently went through all the template and source files and updated them. Likewise I changed some designs, added features, and made navigation a bit easier. The theme/design port changes are as follows:- Updated the portal system (added new blocks/moved some around) - Rewrote most of the portal templates to use defined CSS lists (class: #spblockslist) - Enlarged "hello" text, aligned it to the left, and added bulletins to each "action". Likewise, added the time as an action/listed item. - Updated the "search" box at top. It now changes text depending on what part of the forums you're in. (Example: If you're reading a topic, it would say "Search this topic...") - Added newsfader to the headers - Added user's avatar to each announcement on the portal's page - Completely remade the posting templates: + Linked avatars to profiles. + Added Skype integration + Moved "Total posts", "gender", and "personal text" to under the avatar. + Added "join date" under gender. + Made all names colored according to their group. + Moved "online/offline status" to the buttons underneath IM clients, without the online/offline text - Added "cut-off" feature for articles on the homepage. - Made all the articles on the homepage alternate background colors. - Made all articles on the homepage alternate between red & green rupee icons. The bugs/issues that were addressed are as follows:! Fixed the theme_linktree() issue. ! Fixed undefined 'href' issue with the header avatar. ! Fixed menu javascript undefined issues that caused problems with certain browsers.Hopefully this will make your ZC experiance better. Thanks for reading!

Zelda 64 Hack Forum Opened | 07 Mar 09 |
01:31:16 by SpexfoxViews: 454 | Comments: 1
As the Zelda 64 are considered two of the most popular in the series by many as well as being extensively hacked, I've decided to open up a new Zelda 64 forum for Zelda Coalition. It is very important that all members planning to post work on that forum though that they read THIS POST. I hope the Zelda 64 hacking area gets great activity as I hope our other hacking forums gain popularity as well. For those of you who were introduced to hacking Zelda games by the N64, welcome home again.

IRC Channel | 22 Feb 09 |
23:40:45 by SpexfoxViews: 518 | Comments: 7
I probably should've posted this a while ago but for those of you who don't know or are curious, yes we do have an IRC channel. If you already know what you're doing then you can join us here: irc.badnik.net #zc Not sure what IRC is though? No problem. Here's a bit of information for those who don't know how to join an IRC chat room.[cutoff] First, you'll need a client to connect to the chat room. If you're using Mozilla Firefox to connect, I'd recommend searching their add-ons for "Chatzilla". It's a pretty simple and decent IRC client and you don't have to install any new program. It runs completely through Firefox. If you'd rather have something more robust though, you can check out the powerful (and free) Xchat 2 HERE. Once you've installed either of those, copy and paste the link below in your address bar to join: irc://irc.badnik.net/#zcOnce you join, it's a good idea to punch in /help to see a list of very useful commands. I advise if you're brand new to IRC that you do /nick [whatever name you want] and /help ns register so you know how to register your chosen nickname (this way no one can take it or you can recover it if someone uses it). Once you've registered your name, you can login (or "identify") with the server every time you come in my typing /ns id [password] so long as your nick name is set to the one you registered with. That's all for now and if there's any trouble, feel free to mention your problems in your replies.

Scheduled down time. | 18 Feb 09 |
00:32:03 by SpexfoxViews: 302 | Comments: 1
You may shortly (or may have just) experienced some down-time from our site. It's nothing to worry over though. I'm just doing a quick change of DNS services to make life a little easier and we should be back within an hour or so for everyone. At most I'd expect a day or so of down time for some people but more then likely the site won't take long to re-propagate. Thanks for your understanding!

Happy Valentine's Day! | 14 Feb 09 |
19:54:09 by SpexfoxViews: 293 | Comments: 1
It's that time of year again. Time to fill in that last slot to your special someone's heart container. Is it corny? Sure. But then again the whole holiday is kind of corny really. In any case I hope that all of you have a good Valentine's Day and even if you don't have someone to share it with, here's hoping you will in the future. (HINT: Look for the guy/girl with a Triforce tattooed on the back of their hand. That's a keeper. ) The picture above is of two appropriately themed needle-point pictures done by "nurbed" on deviantArt. You can find the original image HERE.

ZeldaWiki.org - Should we collaborate? | 24 Jan 09 |
21:28:55 by SpexfoxViews: 833 | Comments: 19
So today I was thinking about Zelda Coalition's wiki and how we should plan to handle it. What kind of writing standards should we have and how information should be organized. However I've run into a small dilemma and I'd like the community's help in solving it. ZeldaWiki.org is a pretty damn good resource for general Zelda information. You can find tons of info on enemies, story lines, characters, landscapes, myths, items, and much much more. When starting this site I wanted to try and make it a more generally focused Zelda website which could include information like this. However, looking at ZeldaWiki's information and seeing how much they concern themselves with collaboration, I wonder if we really need to go that far. So my question to pose to all of you is should we collaborate with ZeldaWiki.org and use them as our general-purpose Zelda wiki while maintaining our own when it comes to hacking information? Or should we try to stand on our own with a wiki that holds both hacking information and general Zelda information? UPDATE: The poll is closed and it's been decided we will work on our own.

Site Layout Complete. Now we need YOU! | 24 Jan 09 |
03:01:02 by SpexfoxViews: 292 | Comments: 2
Thanks to a bit of elbow-grease, patience, and a helping hand from ccbtimewiz Zelda Coalition now has a nice layout and theme to go with it. If you haven't been keeping up, the site theme is titled "Majora's Coalition". It was decided that rather then go green like many Zelda sites, we would draw our inspirations from one of the Zelda series' darker titles. However, there is a more important meaning to using Majora's Mask as our site inspiration. Many fans remember this game for being very character-centered. Every person in the game was fleshed out and usually served a purpose with a story of their own. In our "coalition" everyone matters just as every character in Majora's Mask matters and that is the theme for our site in terms of purpose - community. We're glad to be seeing members start to post and new users begining to register because for this site to work, we need members. Not just so you all can view content, but so you can contribute it as well! As a result, we will be implementing a site wiki for cataloguing all sorts of Zelda information. Not just back-story information such as enemies and items, but technical information too! We will also be starting a community maps project which utilises the Google Maps API in order to build strategy guides that can be added to by any member. However our site is currently in immediate need of dedicated fans who would like to write news posts for our front page. There's news happening all the time from Nintendo, the video games industry, our best-friends over at Zelda64.net, and even from fans (like ourselves)! Since no one can be everywhere at once, we'd more then appreciate extra sets of eyes and ears to capture what's going on in the world. If you would like to help out, drop an email by our site address, zeldacoalition@gmail.com or contact me personally. If you can think of more ways to help the site besides what I've mentioned here, don't be afraid to post it in our site discussion forum!

Theme Change | 16 Jan 09 |
00:31:41 by SpexfoxViews: 637 | Comments: 16
Although our theme "Majora's Coalition" is still under development, it's far along in the process to be usable. Because of this "Majora's Coalition" has been set as the default forum theme across the board so I know it's being seen by everyone and that I can receive more feedback. So please, as the theme develops, post your feedback here.
